eRumor True – You can send complaint to FTC

An Address at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to Which You Can Send Spam-Truth!

bullet Summary of the eRumor
A simple forwarded email that says you can send complaints about Spam directly to an email address at the Federal Trade Commission

bullet The Truth
The eRumor is apparently true.

There is an official FTC “Consumer Complaint Form” on the FTC website that can be used to report gripes about companies or organizations.
The form asks for details about you and the outfit you are complaining about but also says, “If you have a specific complaint about unsolicited commercial e-mail (spam), use the form below. You can forward spam directly to the Commission at UCE@FTC.GOV without using the complaint form.”

Note: 3/6/2011 – it appears the email address has changed from UCE@FTC.GOV to spam@uce.gov – If you receive an email that you think may be a scam, forward it to the FTC and it will be stored in a database that law enforcement agencies use to generate legal cases.

A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:

You can forward spam complaints directly to the Federal Trade Commission at UCE@FTC.GOV without using the complaint form.
